Working at the Design Council

As well as designers and project managers, our team includes financial experts, marketeers and lobbyists. We also have anthropologists, actors, mountaineers and even former models working here.

This isn't accidental: we go out of our way to recruit brilliant people from a wide variety of backgrounds who each excel at what they do.

Working with a team of interesting people is one of the perks of the job, but there are many reasons why people choose to join our team. For many it's the chance to be involved in our pioneering work to encourage people to use design to improve the quality of everyday life. For others it's the opportunity to find out about and debate design issues with leading thinkers in the field.

But don't just take our word for it - here's what some of the team have to say about working here.

A healthy organisation

Jim SandersBefore I came to the Design Council, lunch on a working day was a supermarket sarnie. Now, thanks to our fantastic café, it’s a daily feast lovingly prepared by an award-winning chef. It’s delicious, it’s healthy and the generous portions mean there’s minimal slaving over the stove when I get home. Now that’s a perk. Kim Davids, Head of Secretariat

A career in design

Sonja Dahl The Design Council is great. Since I joined the organisation eight years ago we have evolved massively and there is always a new challenge for me to tackle. As a designer, I always approach projects using a design principles and methods drawing on my experience in design management to create new programmes, strategies and tools. The organisation is always changing, which presents new opportunities and ways to collaborate with wider groups and networks and develop my skills further. I enjoy working with such a diverse team of people and finding new ways to position our work nationally and internationally. The shopping in Covent Garden is quite good too!
