Briefing by Peter L Phillips

Few books on the topic of design make reference to design briefs, and when they are mentioned, it is generally only in a sentence or two. However, the following publications are a good source of information

Dear Architect: A brief from Our New SchoolDear Architect by Walker Technology College, Engine service design and Dott 07. Download a copy from the Our New School website

Walker Technology College in Newcastle worked with service design agency Engine to create a colourful, illustrated brief for architects tasked with building a new vocational learning centre.

Although not dealing with design brief structure and process per se, this book does cover the incorporation of business strategy and design strategy very effectively.

Many books on the subject of corporate. or brand, identity chronicle the process of 'discovery' of key business strategies and desired outcomes as a basis for a comprehensive written design brief that then leads to the successful development of effective design solutions.
