In previous years, we've published the Design Council's National Survey of Firms as the printed publication Design in Britain. This year, we're able to provide much more depth and detail from our research through this online resource.
The Factfinder gives you the opportunity to explore our research in more detail. Whether you're interested in design in a particular region, or want to know more about the impact design can have on a business's bottom line, you'll find it in the Factfinder. Sections such as The link between design and better business performance and What design can do for your figures will give you details on this.
There are several ways you can browse the Factfinder. You can compile and generate a bespoke report, or add selected facts to your own documents. How to use the Factfinder explains this in more detail.

It always pays to be informed about opportunities. If you're interested in a career in design, this site can help in several ways:
- The regional report for your area has insights into how local businesses use design services, and what possible opportunities there may be for you. For example, if you're interested in product and industrial design, is it widely used in your area, or might you be better off widening your search? Would you do better approaching businesses directly, or are there more likely to be opportunities in design agencies?
- There are also sector reports. These work in a similar way, and are particularly useful if you want to target a certain type of business.
And don't forget this isn't the only resource available to you. There are other information sources, and we can provide more help. Please feel free to contact the research team at the Design Council.
