Case study: Harrison Fisher

Having worked with large corporations, Hecht found it was a very different experience working with a small family-run firm. ‘It was odd, but odd in a good way.' 'This sort of company is able to propel itself forward and take certain risks that would be very difficult in a larger company with many different people trying to build a level of consensus.'

Alastair Fisher and Sam HechtA very close relationship has developed between the company and Hecht. He has come to play a key role in the development of new products because of his fine understanding of the company's production capabilities and also because of his respect for Alastair Fisher's industry knowledge. The pair have developed a deep appreciation of the other's talents during their time working together.

Colin Burns, one of the Design Associates from Designing Demand that helped set up the working partnership between Hecht and Harrison Fisher, explains: ‘Sam has a philosophical approach to design and is very considered and is a nice contrast to Alastair who is very pragmatic and just wants to get the job done so I think the two of them produce very useful energy when they work together.’

Following the redesign of the Chantry knife sharpener, Hecht was commissioned to design a new, high quality kitchen knife range and a contemporary range.
