The Design Council Archive at the Design History Research Centre at the University of Brighton documents the history of the Design Council from its foundation in 1944 to the present. As such, it also holds information on Design Council awards.

Design Council Archive

The Design Council Archive documents the history of the Council, from foundation under the Board of Trade in 1944 as the Council of Industrial Design, through the reshaping as the Design Council in 1972 to the relaunch in 1994.

The collection of photographs, posters, publications and ephemera reflects many aspects of social and cultural change throughout the twentieth century.

More than 3,000 photographs from the Design Council Archive, alongside images from the Design Council Slide Collection at Manchester Metropolitan University, can be searched online via the AHDS Visual Arts image database. AHDS Visual Arts
