In its 11th report, entitled Creative Partnerships and the Curriculum, the Education and Skills Committee calls for greater involvement of industry, science and design in the teaching of creativity in schools
Lesley Morris, Head of Design Skills at the Design Council said:
'We're delighted to see this report supporting steps to bring design, science and industry closer to the teaching of creativity in schools. This was a key recommendation from our industry consultation with the design sector.'
'Sending more professional designers into schools will help nurture important transferable skills in students – such as creative thinking, multidisciplinary approaches to problem solving, and practical ways to manage innovation. These skills are increasingly rewarded in the workplace and will become more critical in the global economy.'
'We will work with Creative Partnerships to develop a distinct design strand to the existing scheme, connecting more designers with schools and colleges and providing support for teachers and students to develop their creativity, design and innovation skills.'
