Knee High Design Challenge - Finale Event 2016

Knee High Design Challenge - Finale Event 2016

26 April 2016 Written by By Chris Finnegan 2014-17 Marketing and Communications Manager

The Knee High Design Challenge, our partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and Lambeth and Southwark Councils, is a programme that set out to improve the lives and wellbeing of children under five in Southwark and Lambeth.

On Monday 9 May 2016, the partners will host an event to wrap up the Knee high Challenge and present findings from its official independent evaluation.

The event will take a cross-disciplinary approach and cater to a variety of interests and passions from designers, to those who work in early years care, to anyone keen to learn more about setting up a social enterprise.

If you are interested in attending, please email event@designcouncil.org.uk

Over the last two years, we have invested in imaginative and effective interventions that will make a lasting difference to children’s early years. Knee High began by researching and reframing problems that existing approaches to public health have so far failed to address. It threw up some fantastic new ideas for ventures which could help improve the health of under-fives in the two London boroughs and, in extension, on a national scale.

This event is a celebration of the work that has already happened. It also serves as a chance to take stock of what has been achieved so far, examine the work that has been completed and look ahead to the opportunity for open innovation and collaboration to see real change in people's health and wellbeing.

Hear from the Knee High ventures, guest speakers and programme partners on how schemes such as Knee High can help to solve complex social challenges and the important role design must play in early intervention.

The three Knee High finalists will talk about their journey through the design challenge, what happened next and how they have been developing their ideas and taking their ventures to the next level.

Attendees will receive a summary report of the impact of the Knee High Design Challenge and a paper explaining our view on the opportunity design and open innovation represents for public health.
