Design Council Cabe and The Planning Advisory Service are running two workshops - on Tuesday 20 March in Birmingham and Friday 23 March in London - about how to make better places through local and neighbourhood planning.
Who is it for?
Staff and councillors in local authorities who are involved in local or neighbourhood planning.
What is it about?
Design matters. Well-designed places attract investment, support economic growth, strengthen communities, make people feel safer and healthier and protect the environment. A good design process helps to create a viable and deliverable local or neighbourhood plan that brings people together to drive positive change.
This workshop is about putting good design centre-stage in today’s planning system. It will help you to:
- identify who to engage with and how to use design to collaborate with communities on local and neighbourhood planning
- understand the right circumstances for producing a neighbourhood plan and when other tools might be more appropriate
- make the relationship between local plans and neighbourhood plans work to achieve quality places
- promote good design whilst ensuring your plan is pro-growth, viable and deliverable.
Each workshop will give you practical insights, tools and techniques to apply to your own daily working practices. We will showcase inspiring examples of people working together to create great places, with expert speakers providing new insights from different perspectives and sectors. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to discuss your planning challenges and share experiences.
