Tim was appointed Head of the CBI’s Enterprise and Innovation Group in January 2009. The group covers a wide range of policy areas under the headings of: manufacturing; enterprise (small business policy); science, technology & innovation; and business-university links.
Recently, Tim led the CBI’s work on the ‘future shape of business’ and on ‘Making the UK the best place to invest’. He was a member of Sir Adrian Smith’s review of postgraduate education, ‘One Step Beyond’.
Prior to this appointment Tim worked on CBI innovation policy for a number of years, in particular developing CBI innovation surveys and lobbying work that led to the introduction of R&D tax credits for companies of all sizes.
His previous areas of work include independent Secretary to Defra's top-level Science Advisory Council, with the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee as a committee specialist adviser and with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council dealing with postgraduate training and policy issues.
