Budget 2011

Made in Britain, Created in Britain, Designed in Britain, Invented in Britain

Chancellor George Osborne sets out a fiscally neutral budget ‘to fuel growth’ in the face of weakening UK economic performance. The Plan for Growth, published alongside Budget 2011, will focus on tax, start ups, investment, exports, and the workforce.

The Plan for Growth also included policy announcements specific to the Digital and Creative Industries. One new measure is the creation of the Creative Industries Council. We support the intention of the Creative Industries Council and believe that there are specific issues common to businesses in the creative industries.

At a round table meeting last week, Design Council Chief Executive, David Kester, spoke with Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Culture Minister Ed Vaizey and Business Secretary Vince Cable last week alongside Google Managing Director Mark Brittin and BBC director-general Mark Thompson, amongst others. By working together the creative industries will raise the visibility of the sector and best engage with government.
