Technology and policy

Technological development is driving global economic growth and rapid social change. Britain must maintain its expertise in leading-edge technologies both to underpin business growth and provide government and citizens with the tools to navigate an increasingly complex world.

MicroscopeGood design brings the human-centred, whole-system thinking needed to ensure new technology is user-friendly and fit for purpose.

The Design Council is co-ordinating the Design out Crime programme with the Design and Technology Alliance, a group set up by the Home Office to deliver designs that tackle crime.

We are also working with university technology transfer offices in our project Innovate for Universities to provide design mentoring that speeds up the commercialisation of Britain’s world-class scientific and technological research.
