How do designers use charm and humour to delight and entertain? How does great design make even everyday products and services more exciting? How can being playful make things better?

Dan Germain is Head of Creative at Innocent drinks, makers of smoothies and other healthy drinks. Dan has worked at the company since it launched in 1999, and these days his duties include overseeing all advertising and creative tasks. His greatest achievement, apart from once growing a big beard, is the creation of the brand, tone and bad jokes that people have come to associate with innocent.

Luke Nicholson is founder of sustainable innovation practice More Associates, where he has been applying design to social and environmental issues for over a decade. He's been designing in one way or another since childhood when he used to spend his pocket money on geeky trips to visit the Design Council library in Haymarket. His latest venture CarbonCulture aims to use design to accelerate the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy, and counts among its members the Department for Energy and Climate Change, HM Treasury, Defra, Cabinet Office and 10 Downing Street.
