The brief
The brief challenged designers Azhar Architecture and Slider Studio, together with industry supplier Grant Westfield to design a more dignified toileting and washing experience in hospital. The two designers came up with two complementary solutions, with industry suppliers developing manufacturing solutions for both.
Designing the capsule washroom
The capsule washroom is an enclosed toilet and shower room that can be plugged into existing services. The prefabricated solution can be erected quickly almost anywhere in the hospital environment. Because it offers an all-in-one, ready-to-use solution, the capsule washroom avoids the need for costly new plumbing and disruptive refurbishment.
Smart mirror
The smart mirror can be retrofitted into existing hospital toilets, to reorganise and improve the washbasin space. The fully prefabricated product is easily integrated into existing facilities.
A large mirror brings domestic familiarity to the hospital environment. The design features slimline, wall-hung storage, integrated lighting, shaving socket, waste bin, and grab rail that also functions as a towel hanger.
