The brief was to design a range of patient clothes that reduce the risk of physical exposure, and cater for differences in patient size as well as cultural and religious preferences.
Designer Ben de Lisi, in partnership with industry supplier Silvereed responded to this challenge with the universal gown.
Universal gown
Unlike traditional hospital gowns that open at the back, the garment covers both the front and back of the patient. Press stud fastenings allow the gown to open and close down both sides and across one shoulder.
IV lines and other equipment can be attached without exposing the skin, helping to maintain patient dignity.
The one size fits all gown incorporates a discreet, internal cord to fit comfortably around all patients. And the completely reversible design allows nursing staff to ensure the open sleeve is nearest to any bedside medical equipment. It also means that the patient has a choice of a round or V-neck.
Made from poly-cotton with a soft jersey neck and shoulders, the gown allows for easy movement and comfort.
Patient wear
The universal gown is the centre-piece of a new range of patient wear, including lightweight shoulder-bag, a wrap-around fleece, and pyjama bottoms.
