One in three of us who live to 65 will have some form of dementia before we die. A million people in the UK will be living with the condition by 2021. But there’s a difference between simply living and living well.

We know designers have what it takes to reduce the impact of violence and aggression in A&E. Tell us how your team would approach the challenge and you could receive up to £150,000 to develop your ideas.

Design for Patient Dignity

The Design Council, working in partnership with the Department of Health, commissioned six teams of designers and manufacturers, as well as healthcare design specialists from the Royal College of Art Helen Hamlyn Centre to develop innovative new designs that show how the hospital experience could be made better, and how different privacy and dignity issues could be solved.

Design Bugs Out

Patients expect hospitals to be clean and safe. Good design can help make that happen by developing furniture and equipment that’s easy to clean and easy to use.

The Design Council, working in partnership with the Department of Health, challenged the UK design industry to develop a range of functional products that make cleaning quicker and easier.

Innovation in Primary Care

In partnership with NHS London, the Design Council are supporting London’s GPs to generate and implement new ideas for improving the services they offer patients.

Redesigning citizenship, health and ageing: RED

Design Council RED team

RED was set up in 2004 by the Design Council to tackle social and economic issues through design led innovation.
