Design Icons, Cambridge Innovation Festival: throughout February 2012

The Cambridge Innovation Festival ran during February 2012, celebrating the wealth of design talent in Cambridge and sparking conversations about how design can help businesses grow and bring new technology to market.

The Design 4 seminar series gave small business owners in and around Cambridge the chance to learn more about:

  • Design 4 Enterprise & Start-Up
  • Design 4 Success
  • Design 4 Manufacture
  • Design 4 Communication

The Design 4 Manufacturing seminar brought together James Moultrie from Cambridge University and Steve Augustyn from Team Consulting who gave attendees an insight into design opportunities they could pursue to improve the efficiency of their manufacturing processes and help their businesses grow. The evening seminar finished with some lively networking and much marvelling at the 3D printing machine on display.

Accompanying the seminar series and running throughout the month was Design Icons, an exhibition showcasing 20 products designed over four decades in and around Cambridge.

Items from Evian water bottles, to CTC's DueFertility system, to Alex Driver and Carlos Peralta's "Moss Table", to a Sinclair C5 were on display. Cambridge's Anglia Ruskin University was buzzing on 9 February as designers, manufacturers and students mingled at the exhibition launch. As the snow flurried in the university courtyards attendees were warmly welcomed by organiser Clare Denham of Creative Front and enjoyed short talks on how design contributes to growth by Chris Owen, Head of the School of Art, Julian Huppert MP and Clive Grinyer from Cisco.
