The Design Council's RED team was set up in 2004 to tackle social and economic issues through design led innovation.
In 2006, at the end of the RED projects, the team wrote a paper on Transformation Design which discusses how product, communication, interaction and spatial designers’ core skills can be used to transform the ways in which the public interacts with systems, services, organisations and policies.
This paper is a call to action. It begins to set out the characteristics of this emergent discipline. It identifies a nascent but growing community of practice. It highlights an under-supply of designers equipped to work in this way. And it explores the market for, and the challenges facing, designers who are starting to work in this new discipline. We call it transformation design RED Paper 02: Transformation Design
