"The design industry is so huge that you really can’t escape the fact that it considers itself a marketing function and it is about styling. We don’t work to market trends. We don’t have, what are they called? The roundtable discussions with potential buyers. It doesn’t interest us. For us it’s much more about a creative endeavour. It’s much more of an art."

"The design industry’s been quite inward-looking. Designers are designing for designers, you know, and magazines and… and I think it’s been, a lot of the design has been quite lazy, and I think we’re all going to have to work harder to create the things we create. And that’s a good thing."

"There still is a thing with graphic designers that people think, oh you are the person who does the captions ... I don’t want to do that. I’m too old. I don’t want to spend nine months doing some captions. That doesn’t interest me ... I just love getting really involved in a project and people allowing me to, you know. And then you get the best out of me."

"I think a good graphic designer is a mixture of cerebralness and an ability to physically touch and make things and understand that graphic design is a combination of those two things. I think a graphic designer is somebody who’s got lots of legs, because you need stamina to complete often lengthy and complicated projects ... and I think there is that aspect to graphic design which is about understanding laws and making sure you break them."
