As Chief Design Officer at Design Council from 2010 to 2015, Mat directed the organisation’s Design Challenges programme that demonstrates how design can create new solutions for the big issues of our time. Whether stopping the spread of superbugs, reducing crime or promoting health and wellbeing for our ageing population, the programme generates practical solutions to complex problems. Recent ventures supported include Dementia Dog, Ode, The Amazings, Gusto and Casserole.
Before joining the Design Council Mat was a partner at IDEO, an internationally renowned design and innovation consultancy, where he focused mostly on creating digital products and services. He is a graduate of Central St Martins School of Art & Design and the Royal College of Art. Mat's current academic roles include Adjunct Professor at Imperial College Business School and external examiner for Product Design at Glasgow School of Art.
Mat is currently Strategy Director at the Central Research Laboratory.
