Beverley Nielsen is Director of Employer Engagement at Birmingham City University.
The university is home to the highly respected Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, together with the School of Media, Birmingham Conservatoire and Birmingham School of Acting and, in addition, covering engineering, business, health, law and education.
Her personal interest in design and innovation and their contribution to competitiveness has grown following her own experience of introducing new products and services to drive business and organisational success. Following this, she founded the BCU-led think tank, Idea Birmingham, with over 100 business members and supporters. They published policy reports including, Looking for Growth, Sack the Economists and Hire a Designer. They launched and promoted the Birmingham Made Me Design Expo. This was a showcase for Midlands design and innovation excellence linking emerging talent with businesses and highlighting entrepreneurial collaborations and new business opportunities.
She was a Group Director of FTSE 250 plc, AGA Foodservice Group, (now AGA Rangemaster); MD of Fired Earth, Chief Executive of the Heart of England Tourist Board; Director, CBI West Midlands and Marketing Director CBI. She is involved with the RNLI, Chairman of the experience learning company, Malvern Outdoor Elements, a former Worcestershire County Councillor and a Fellow at WMG, the University of Warwick.
She was voted 2013 West Midlands Business Masters Business Ambassador and was recognised as Midlands Business Woman of the Year.
