In 1994 Gary launched Deepend, one of the first dedicated digital media agencies in the UK, and the first of 16 further companies within the subsequent holding company, Deepgroup. 

Over seven years Deepend grew into a £12m business employing over 300 people based in 8 cities around the world making it the largest independent digital agency worldwide by 1999.

As well as Deepend (digital design and creative), Deepgroup launched Airtight (digital media strategy and branding), Backend (systems integration and e-commerce), Poolside (digital maintenance and production), Glue London (online advertising and promotions), Relish (online PR) and Sleeper (interactive advertising).

In March 2013 Gary founded his own agency once again, Grandad Digital Ltd, with funding from industry veteran Jerram Shurville (Ex FD of agency group Havas).

Gary holds/has held directorships and memberships to several of the UK’s most influential design and business organisations.  His roles include being the youngest council member of the Design Council in 1999 and regular judge of the Royal Society of Arts design awards scheme.

He has been a Director of the Design Business Association, on the General Council of NABS and has spoken at the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth on the UK digital media industry.  He has also been involved with multiple White Paper studies conducted by the Department of Culture, Media & Sport, DTI and British Council.
