Evaluation finds Design Academy boosts graduate prospects

Evaluation finds Design Academy boosts graduate prospects

A new evaluation of the Design Council's Design Academy programme finds that it enhances student experience and adds value to industry collaborations.

Design Academy is Design Council’s new learning programme developed to boost graduate employment by strengthening the strategic design capabilities of design students.

Over the last six months we have been evaluating the Design Academy pilot, delivered to 91 students from across 14 disciplines at four universities, and today we share our early findings in relation to its impact on students, universities and industry.

In the report, we highlight the growth of design as a strategic tool for innovation and the opportunities that exist for students that enhance their skills and capabilities in this area.

Through the evaluation, we learned that students who took part developed greater confidence in their future employment prospects and that learning was strengthened as a result of the interdisciplinary and reflective nature of the programme structure.

Universities discovered that the programme greatly enhanced the student experience and also gave opportunities for faculty members to reflect on and enhance their own practice. At the same time our industry partners saw real value in collaborating with universities through Design Council, connecting them to some of the hottest design talent with potential to support their innovation ambitions.

Based on the positive feedback, we are pleased to say that we are continuing to grow the Design Academy programme and are currently recruiting for 2016-17.

If you’re interested in finding out more, please download the report for free and get in touch with a member of the Design Academy team.  Registration closes in early June.
