Projects: major private houses; housing; historic buildings; public and commercial buildings. National and international prizes for building and urban design. Prizes in USA for lifetime achievement. Recognised as major figure in development of traditional and classical architecture in UK and internationally. 20 years’ experience in masterplanning, pioneer contextual urban design and objective coding.
Furniture design in national collection. Work widely published, broadcast and exhibited. Publications include historical, critical and theoretical papers, six books including textbook on classical architecture, globalisation and architecture, and time theory and architecture. Lecture widely in the UK and abroad. Founded: Popular Housing Forum (later merged with Design for Homes); the International Network for Traditional Building Architecture and Urbanism; the RIBA Traditional Architecture Group. Set up specialist architecture course in Sweden. Elected councillor, trustee and honorary secretary of RIBA. RIBA Planning Group. RIBA Awards judge 12 years. Sunday Times Housing Awards judge 10 years, latterly chair. Chair of Manzano Prize awards (Spain and Portugal). CABE Design Review 6 years.
