Jo is a Director of Future Public – a service design and consulting practice specialising in working with the public and social sector and the Co-Lead of a charity Place Matters which enables place-based change through learning.
Her interests as a designer are in ageing, participatory design and (un)employment. She has worked in and for the UK public sector for over 30 years, initially in the NHS and then in consulting, service delivery, investment and research organisations working for local and central government clients in the UK and internationally.
Before becoming a designer, she was a business leader holding Board-level positions in service businesses. She has an MA in Service Design from the RCA. Her focus as a design practitioner is on public and social sector transformation and participatory design. Recent design work includes tackling youth employment, product design with business start-ups in the healthy ageing market, participatory design with a co-operative housing community and re-designing employment services for a local authority. Jo uses human centred, inclusive design practices, bringing different voices and perspectives through ethnography and engagement and through inclusive co-design processes. She combines design with business, investment, research and change management skills.
