Hilary is Programme Lead at Design Council, where she oversees the Place portfolio, promoting the use of design to create sustainable, resilient and inclusive places.
Hilary’s background is in spatial planning, regeneration and communication design. An urban planner by training, Hilary has over 10 years’ experience of working in the built environment sector in a variety of organisations from Local Authorities, design studios to universities, in a variety of different roles, including practice, strategy, project management and consultancy.
Before joining Design Council, Hilary worked at UCL, overseeing the Bartlett Faculty’s consultancy remit, building and managing their consultancy portfolio. She has managed a varied range of programmes from cultural regeneration and exhibitions and from academic research to masterplans.
Hilary holds a MSc. in Spatial Planning from the Bartlett, UCL, where she specialised in sustainable development and an BSc. in Social and Public Policy from the University of Bristol.
At Design Council, Hilary manages a number of strategic design advice programme and panels and oversees Design Council’s inclusive environments programme. Hilary also contributes to Design Council’s thought leadership and advocacy programme, representing Design Council across the industry.
In her spare time Hilary enjoys cold sea swims, long bike rides and exploring London’s playgrounds with her young son.
