Can design save our coastal towns?

Can design save our coastal towns?

7 November 2019

When the fishing port of Amble lost one of its major employers, we worked with the local community to repurpose its existing resources so the area could still thrive. By keeping more of their daily catch in the town itself, residents were able to reinvent Amble as a major tourist destination for discerning seafood lovers, creating a wealth of new jobs and opportunities.

Following the work we did with Amble, there were applications and permissions granted for over 1,100 houses and over 400 houses have been completed and more are just about to start. Today over £8m has been invested in Amble, including a new hotel with a further £10m earmarked in development and more in the pipeline.

In 2015, Amble won the Costal Community Category High Street of the Year and earlier this year, The Sunday Times voted Amble as being one of the top places by the sea to live.
