Designer
The Communication Team is critical in raising the Design Council’s profile and impact. Our goal is to champion design by curating and sharing content to inform, inspire and influence our key audiences.
The Designer role plays an integral part in producing digital and print creative solutions to meet our communications and programming needs and contribute to the safeguarding and development of our brand.
Our design assets are a powerful tool in engaging our key audiences, including the design sector, government, funders and businesses with our Design for Planet mission.
The Designer reports to the Senior Digital Content Manager and works with colleagues and contacts at all levels of the organisation.
About the role
The Designer is responsible for the following:
- A multi-faceted approach to project outputs, including creating decks for presenting, reporting or templating plus accompanying social assets.
- Artworking and designing to bring projects and programmes across the business to life. Considering not just the layout but the content itself, to originate and design solutions to actualise it.
- Infographic design and data visualisation to enliven key data.
- Originate and design event collateral, such as installation and exhibit content.
- Opportunity to support development of sub-brands of Design Council, such as the Design Economy and Skills for Planet mission.
- With the support of Communications team members, assist on briefing freelance designers and support in tendering processes.
- Managing the digital library with all images and assets, with key attention to detailed search and refinement.
- Following production timelines and manage stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Other key skills
- Strong attention to detail, including proofreading, image management, attribution, data visualisation.
- A strong understanding of design principles, with an innate sense of aesthetic cohesion within brand guidelines.
- Ensuring that digital and print accessibility standards are met.
- Incorporating our Design for Planet ethos for the entirety of the design pipeline, from concept to inception.
- Advocating for and implementing the Design Council’s Brand Guidelines and Toolkit for internal and external clients ensuring that it is applied consistently, without compromising the brand integrity.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of graphic materials to support continuous improvement such as branded templates.
About you
Experience
- Proven experience of working in a studio or company environment with comprehensive understanding of design for print and digital communications (including; brand identity, corporate communications, integrated campaigns, information design, advertising, brand development and packaging).
- Proven ability to respond creatively to a brief as well as to estimate the resource required to deliver.
- Experience in timeline management skills.
- Proven experience in data visualisation skills.
Qualifications and skills
- Technical skills in using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Microsoft Word.
- Excellent time-management.
- Great interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across different teams and proactively manage stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to work in an agile environment, to be proactive and fast-paced.

Corporate responsibilities
- Proactively identify and manage risks and financial controls in relation to the Design Council and your specific area of responsibility.
- Comply with the Design Council’s operational policies and procedures including financial and risk management, project management and evaluation processes, brand guidelines, GDPR, information security and internal health and safety policy.
