Ling Tan is a distinguished designer, artist, and creative technologist known for her work on social engagement, urban data science, and environmental politics. Trained as an architect, her work challenges people’s interaction with the built environment using technology as a catalyst for dialogue and action. With a focus on citizen participation and collective agency, she works globally with diverse communities on participatory and technological initiatives addressing urban and environmental issues, including climate change, public safety, air quality, gender, and racial equity. She is a co-founder of HAQUE TAN, a design studio working at the intersection of architecture, art, and technology, and a part of Umbrellium. Her expertise spans architecture, design and data science, food systems, and socio-cultural policy.


Her work is exhibited internationally, including Centre Pompidou, V&A, Barbican, HeK, and Wits Art Museum. She has received the STRP Act Award 2024, Seoul Design Finalist Award 2023, Asia Digital Art Finalist Award Fukuoka, and commendations from S+T+ARTS Prize. She was previously Associate Artistic Director at Kakilang, where she curated the critically acclaimed multimedia exhibition State-less at Two Temple Place. She is also a frequent public speaker, helping shape discourse on diversity, participation, urban technology, and citizen empowerment.
