2014 Future Pioneers announced!

2014 Future Pioneers announced!

4 July 2014 Written by By Margarita Ktoris Marketing & Communications Officer at Design Council, 20

Last night we announced our Future Pioneers of 2014.

The winners’ designs included a self-administering first-aid kit and a model for an alternative internet.

Future Pioneers is a Design Council initiative to celebrate and nurture emerging designers. An esteemed judging panel of design experts picked four out of 1,400 graduates exhibiting their work at Part 2 of New Designers, the UK's largest exhibition for graduate designers, to become our Future Pioneers.

Our Future Pioneers showed that high-level concepts that benefit people can be delivered beautifully. We look forward to helping kickstart the careers of the next generation of promising young designers.

The Future Pioneers discovered at New Designers 2014 are:

Chia-Ju Lin, Edinburgh College of Art

What if I am alone - Emergensee

A first-aid kit designed to be self-administered using one hand (Chia-Ju is not present in the photo as she was overseas when winners were announced. However, we'll be featuring her amazing work very soon).

Grace Davies, Weston College

Patch

A social impact project that links allotments to local food banks, reducing food waste and increasing awareness of food poverty.

Ruby Davies, Kingston University

Objects tell stories

A service to condense inherited objects of sentimental value to retain memories and feelings of closeness to the deceased.

Sarah Gold, Central St Martins

The Alternet

A reimagined internet with user privacy at its heart.

The winners will be provided with a programme of promotion and support, including a chance to exhibit their work with Designersblock at the London Design Festival and desk space at Makerversity, Somerset House.

The winners work and runners-up shortlist can be seen at the New Designers exhibition at the Business Design Centre in London until Saturday 5 July 2014. Look out for the Future Pioneers swing-tag on their stands.

We'll be featuring interviews with our 2014 Future Pioneers and an in-depth look at their winning work on the website very soon, so stay tuned.
