Animation: the value of design for growing businesses

I’m sure it come as no surprise to hear at the Design Council, we’re always thinking about the value of design. In fact, with our aim to ‘champion design that improves lives’, you probably expected as much.

What might not be so obvious is our interest in the area of business, and the impact that design can have on the success of small or growing businesses. As part of this interest, we have been working with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to investigate how, why and when design has helped businesses to not only stay afloat, but to evolve, expand and prosper.

The Value of Design

The investigation revealed some really exciting evidence. We found that when businesses implemented design thinking, it boosted product creation, exports, and the word everyone likes to hear – profits.  Interestingly, it also had a meaningful impact on the way a workplace looked and operated, and the general well-being of its staff.

We wanted to share these stories and stats but in a way that was more exciting than just another PDF report. So we worked with the animation team at Golden Wolf to bring our research to life- in a way that’s a little bit different.  We hope you enjoy what we came up with, do let us know what you think.
